YouTube’s latest Proud To Love video is another beauty and like the ones before it makes my heart both sing with joy and I get a little emotional too. The YouTube community is one of the best supporters of LGBTI rights, from everyday moms to the U.S. president Barack Obama, who have uploaded videos in support of LGBT awareness, to stand up against bullying and discrimination, and to say together, as a community, that marriage equality matters. Like it really matters!
YouTube is again celebrating pride but also celebrating change!
There’s a lot of change across the globe and when YouTube puts a spotlight on it, I can really see how far we’ve come in the past 10 years! Gee, 10 years ago I was still in the closet, I didn’t know any gay guys or girls and was still disgusted that I liked men and I hid it really well.
Today I am openly out, my family and friends all know I like guys. I’ve had great relationships, bad relationships and I’ve had my heart broken too. Gee, I even founded Gay Aussie, I definitely didn’t think 10 years ago I would be writing about celebrating love, marriage equality and never would have thought I would start a gay website. Like NEVER!
Have a think, where were you 10 years ago? What were your friends and family saying about gays? What has changed and has it gotten better?
