Brisbane Powerhouse are preparing for the biggest Brisbane Queer Film Festival in 2014
A 20th anniversary screening for The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert with special appearances by Olympian Matthew Mitcham, Jake Harrison (My Kitchen Rules) and LGBTIQ films will all feature at this year’s Brisbane Queer Film Festival. BQFF 2014 is on at Brisbane Powerhouse 28 March – 5 April 2014.
BQFF 2014 features new events such as Camp Out (a new 12-hr marathon screening where participants sleep in the Powerhouse Theatre hosted by Leigh Buchanan), a closing night party, special Q and As after films and the annual Queer Aussie Shorts program where audiences can vote for their favourite film.
According to festival producer Troy Armstrong BQFF2014 is back and bigger than ever.
“This year’s festival is about celebrating love in all forms – we’ve got documentaries, dramas, thrillers and a fantastic selection of new events designed to welcome everyone in the LGBTIQ community.
“One highlight for the festival this year will be Camp Out – a 12-hr film marathon and sleepover in the Powerhouse Theatre, followed by a hot breakfast prepared by ambassador and MKR finalist Jake Harrison.”
“If you want to get dressed up there’s the Drag-a-thong for closing night, where three lucky audience members get a drag makeover after a screening of The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert and an exclusive Q and A with costume designer Tim Chappel.
“If you want behind-the-scenes gossip we have Q and As with Olympian Matthew Mitcham after the screening of British thriller Victim, as well as with directors Beth Nelson and Ana Grillo after their film Camp Beaverton: Meet the Beavers and actor Tristan Barr from the film Monster Pies.
“There’s also our traditional opening night party which has a ‘Love Shack’ beach theme this year to accompany opening night film Out in the Line-Up which explores homosexuality within surf culture.”
